The Sarawak state is known as the largest state in Malaysia and Sarawak is geographically located at the north west of the Island of Borneo. In this 124450 square kilometer land area, the total population count of the Sarawak state falls around the numerical figure of 2176800 people. Within these 2176800 people, there are a total of 28 ethnic groups with the Ibans, Chinese and Malays being the largest groups amongst all these 28ethnic groups. For Sarawak, the state capital is known as the Kuching district and in addition to Kuching, there are another ten main administrative divisions here where these ten divisions include Samarahan, Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei, Sibu, Mukah, Kapit, Bintulu, Miri and Limbang. Over the years, for the Limbang division, Brunei is still maintaining a territorial dispute over the rightful ownership of the district. Ever since the early days, the main economy of the Sarawak state depends greatly on various natural resources such as liquefied natural gas (LNG), petroleum and as well as timber. For those who may not know, the Sarawak state is also known as one of the world’s largest exporter of tropical hardwood timber and on top of that, Sarawak produces around nine to ten million cubic meters of logs each year. Nowadays, with the rapidly decreasing forestry areas, the state government of the Sarawak state has started to impose strict log – production quotas in order to ensure a more sustainable forestry management. Aside from that, around 32% of the total land areas of Sarawak are found to be very suitable as agricultural lands. However, despite having such a vast land, only 9% of the 32% of land are used to plant productive permanent crops, as for the rest, they are still under shifting cultivation of hills padi. In Sarawak, some of the main commercial crops are palm oil, sago and as well as pepper. The climate in Sarawak is humid throughout the whole year and as for the temperature, the weather will be cooler by night with an average of 23°C and slightly hotter by day with an average of 32°C.
