Perlis Map

In Malaysia, the smallest state is known as the Perlis state and it is located in Peninsular Malaysia, at the northern part of the west coast. In addition to that, the Perlis state is sandwiched by Thailand on the north, Kedah on the east and as well as the Straits of Malacca on the west. With only a land area of 810 square kilometer, the total population count estimated on the year 2000 falls around the figure of 198335. For the ethnic breakdown, the majority of the ethnic is Malay, followed by Chinese, Indian and other ethnics. The state capital for Perlis is known as Kangar whereas the royal town of Perlis is known as Arau. Aside from these two main administrative districts, there is also a third main administrative district here in the Perlis state where this district is known as Padang Besar. Originally, the Perlis state is part of the Kedah state, however, after a string of historical events, the Perlis state is now an independent state. Even until today, the Perlis state’s main economy is very closely related to agriculture where some of these agricultural products include rice, sugar and as well as various fruits. Aside from that, forestry and fishery also play an important role in the Perlis state’s economy. Generally, the climate (tropical climate) here in the Perlis state is almost identical with the rest of the states in Peninsular Malaysia, however, due to the reason where Perlis is situated nearby to the sea, the weather between January and April will be warm and dry whereas the weather between September and December will be humid and wet.
