About Terengganu

Introduction about Terengganu

With the gift from mother nature such as the white sandy beaches, the tall swaying coconut trees, various exotic islands, the lush green forest and waterfalls, it is not absurd to proudly claim that the Terengganu state is one of the states in Malaysia which are blessed with a wealth of natural landscapes and sceneries. With Kuala Terengganu as the state capital and as well as the royal town, this 12950 square kilometer state has a total population of roughly 900000 people where the majority of the population (roughly 90%) are made up from Malays. In addition to Kuala Terengganu, there are also 6 other main administrative districts here in the Terengganu state which includes Besut, Dungun, Hulu Terengganu, Kemaman, Marang and Setiu.

In the impression of most people, Terengganu is a slow paced and tranquil town where in a sense, it can be said that the life in Terengganu is very relaxing and less hectic when compared to other major states in Malaysia such as Johor or Penang. In addition to that, the Terengganu state is also considered as one of the more socially conservative states in Malaysia, just like its counterpart the Kelantan state (Terengganu was once ruled by PAS but Kelantan until today is still under PAS ruling). Despite the fact for being slightly more conservative, Terengganu still welcomes foreign investment especially in the petrochemical industry as we all may or may not know, Terengganu is a state in Malaysia which is very rich in petroleum.

For the traveler who loves relaxing at the white sandy beaches or the traveler who knows how to appreciate the traditional cultures, Terengganu is surely the place to visit because apart from the picturesque view of the natural landscape and the crystal clear beaches, Terengganu itself is also famous with various traditional work of art such as boat building, wooden carvings, batik and other local handicrafts. In addition to that, Terengganu is also very well known with the production and selling of Keropok Lekor, one of the famous fish crackers here in Malaysia. Besides the crispy Keropok Lekor, there is also a unique local drink which is known as the coconut’s shake (coconut mixed with milk and topped with vanilla ice cream). Although the majority of the populations here in Terengganu are Malays, there is still a variety of cuisines available here such as the Nasi Dagang where the Nasi Dagang is cooked with various spices and coconut milk.

To keep things in a simple manner, although Terengganu doesn’t has too much sky scrapers soaring in the skies or fancy shopping malls with running lights, Terengganu can still be said as one of the tourist attractions here in Malaysia as in addition to serving as a check point for tourists wanting to visit the nearby islands, Terengganu is also a state which has a rich local traditional cultures and various beautiful lush green sceneries.
