Introduction about Perlis


The Perlis state is located at the western coast of Peninsular Malaysia and it is known as the smallest state in the whole of Malaysia. With just a land area not more than 900 square kilometer, the total population count of the Perlis state falls around the figure of 198335 as of the year 2000. The state capital of Perlis is known as Kangar whereas the royal town of Perlis is known as Arau. Aside from that, there is another main administrative district here in Perlis where the district is known as Padang Besar.

In the early days before the establishment of Malaysia, Perlis is actually a part of the Kedah empire. Throughout the historical events related to the Perlis state, there has been frequent changing power within the state between Siam, Aceh, British and as well as Japan. However, after the World War II when Japan surrendered, Perlis was retaken under the British administration. However, shortly after the formation for the Malayan Union, Perlis was released from the British’s jurisdiction.

For the main economy of the Perlis state, agriculture is by far the largest contributor towards the economy of Perlis. Aside from agriculture, both fishery and forestry also play a vital part in the economy cycle of the Perlis state. On top of all these, tourism in the Perlis state is also part of the contributor towards the economy of the state as several of the natural and historical attractions in Perlis state is indeed very interesting. However, despite this reason, the tourism in the Perlis state still doesn’t gain that much attentions when compared to other states like Penang, Ipoh and as well as Pahang. Partially, the reasoning behind this may be due to the fact where the administration and the law in the Perlis state are rather conservative thus lowering the chances of attracting more travelers.

For the tourism side of the Perlis state, within the state, there are quite a few of historical monuments and as well as various natural attractions. Although the Perlis state is the smallest state in Malaysia, within the state there are still a lot of natural attractions such as the lush green padi fields, picturesque natural sceneries and many others more. As for the weather in the Perlis state, the weather can be rather hot during the day, however, starting from night time until dawn, the weather can be more cooling and refreshing when compared to other urban cities.
